This weekend was one awesome time away from everything! Three other guys from my Bible study (Bob, Robert, and Scott) went on a vacation to Robert’s grandparent’s cabin in the Ocala National Forest. This is up in Northern Florida and it is about a 4 to 5 hour drive to get there. It was a great time to rest, goof off, and spend time with God. Saturday we went fishing on the Okawahee river and it was so cool. We caught about 9 fish and two of those were mine. It had been a while since I have been fishing, so it was really neat to catch everything. We also cooked the fish up and had them for dinner, but I wouldn’t say they tasted good. One thing we will have to work on is frying fish!

God was awesomely there too. We were in a secluded area and there was only one cabin next to ours and from what I could tell there wasn’t anyone there. We live in such a fast paced culture that it is easy to get caught up in everything that is going on from work to friends to church. I admit that I have been caught up in these things too, so it was like a breath of fresh air (quite literally) to just relax and unwind.

Being at reast is one of the things.  Hebrews 4:1-3 “Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. Now we who have believed enter that rest…”

The author of Hebrews is talking about the Sabbath rest, and I think that is related to our ability to clear our minds of the rush of everything and focus on God’s love, grace, and redemptive work in our lives. This is why he gave us the Sabbath – so we would not work and just chill out. That is what happened this weekend and I feel recharged.
