Hi from Malaysia! I don’t know if you guys know anything about Malaysia (if it hadn’t been named in Zoolander I would have never even heard of it), so I figured I’d tell you a little about my home for the month. Well, it is a small nation that is made up of two islands, East and West Malaysia (the East side is also called Borneo). I am living on the West side in a town called Penang. Penang is one of the larger cities in Malaysia and is also considered one of the food capitals of the world! Sooo we pretty much hit the jackpot ๐Ÿ™‚

The people of Malaysia make up a pretty good cultural mix. 50% of the country are Malay (natives of the country) and the official religion of the Malays is Islam. Another good portion of the people are Chinese and their religion is a mix of Buddhism, Taoism, ancestral worship and other polytheistic ideals. The last main section is Indian and they are mainly Hindu as well as Muslim.

Most of us had no idea we were coming into an Islamic country so it was cool surprise. It has been really interesting seeing the dynamic and learning about the different people groups. We already got to visit a mosque and a couple temples. We are living in the “little India” of Penang and it has been so fun walking up and down the streets and trying on saaris and listening to the Indian music and traditions. This also means we’ve been eating a lot of Indian food which is AMAZING. I definitely believe the hype about the food here….and the best part is, its super cheap!

As I said in my last blog, we are working with YWAM and more specifically with a homeless ministry in the city called Kawan. Its three days a week, serves two meals and provides showers and rest for the people who come in. It is mainly older men that come and a few women.

On the other days we’ve been learning about the culture and religion/how to relate and share the gospel to of all the people groups here and doing some cleaning and stuff where ever we are needed. I think our main focus here will be building relationships with anyone and everyone. I am loving it so far. The city is so cool and the food is awesome. And we are staying at YWAM and check out this roof we have access to (as in its the floor above us!)

This month is going to be totally different from our time in the Philippines. They will always be in our hearts but we are excited to see what God has for us here! As always, please pray for health as well as all the conversations we will have and the people we will meet. We want to be used to the fullest, however that may look. Thanks for your prayers. Love you guys! And I am still not fully funded so if you would like, you can help me out right here on this site! ๐Ÿ™‚
