NEW TEAM

Well as many of you have already figured out we have new teams! We had squad leaders raised up out of our teams (YAY!) so it was time for some new teams.  My first team was amazing and I love each of them so dearly and it was so hard to say goodbye to them at the beginning of the month.  But my new team is just as amazing! We have only been together for about two weeks but we have already gotten to know each other pretty well and we are all so excited about what God is going to do in us and through us! He has already given us such great memories:

Our first team time: We were in the mall in Phuket, Thailand and we had to come up with a team name, so we just start throwing random names out there, from Team News Team to Team Creeping Through Your Window to Team Team Team.  Well, needless to say we couldn’t stop laughing about everything we were having so much fun just hanging out with each other and coming up with team names.  So, from the creative mind of Bekah Spurgeon, Team Haha was suggested and loved instantly.

Our first bonding activity: Potter-palooza! AKA a Harry Potter Marathon.  You see, we had some team members who had never seen the Harry Potter movies, crazy I know, so we decided we would watch one a night for the past 8 days.  It has been awesome, we have been able to just hang out together and enjoy getting to know each others loves and interests; and of course watch the Harry Potter movies.  Next series? The Lord of the Rings Trilogy?

NEW COUNTRY

We are currently in Malaysia, some of you may be thinking “but that’s not even on your route” and you would be correct but this is the World Race where nothing is set in stone until you are actually doing it and the points REALLY don’t matter.  For those of you who don’t know anything about Malaysia, (like I did until I got here) it is a predominately Muslim nation where it is illegal to try and convert a Muslim.  My team and I are in Gua Musang and the state we are in is full of fundamentalist Muslims and are run by these same fundamentalist Muslims so we can’t really say anything about being a Christian or anything.  Gua Musang does not reflect the rest of Malaysia at all and we love being here and just being able to be Christ’s light to this town.  This country is so beautiful and full of love and light and hope it’s insane!

NEW MINISTRY

Here in Gua Musang we are working with a community center that was started by some Christians who followed God’s calling when everyone they told said they were crazy.  They moved here about three years ago to start this community center where they teach English and have camps for kids and kind of an after school program.  Like I said earlier, they can’t openly say that they are Christians and if anyone asks them what they believe they have to be very careful with what they say. So this center is just a light in a very dark place they have been called to and just by them being there I can see God working in the people around them and in the community. Oh, and we are painting their house.

God has been doing some pretty awesome things here already and I can't wait to see what else He has planned for us.  I'm so excited to get closer with my team, live life together and see how God works in them.
Ah! God is so good! Don’t you agree!
