Part 3: In the House of Rahab

With our plans in place we were ready to see our new friends and have a swell afternoon.

Day 3: Invited in.

We had Mads and Meg ready to meet the girls in front of the Hotel/Casino at 1pm, our friend Louie with boxes of pizza, and the rest of us waiting on the beach. We were ready to enjoy some good conversation, have laughs, fun in the waves, and maybe even boogie board.

But you know, sometimes things don’t always go as planned.

Instead of going to the beach, Mads and Meg were unexpectedly invited by the girls to a barbecue. So they went home with the girls.

Here’s a quick blurb from Mads about their afternoon,

“Well, the afternoon was really unexpected. We salsa danced, listened to music, went swimming and ate the US food they made us! Crazy! They just invited us in. They were our friends. Our friends from Venezuela. They were men and women who invited us in.”

Hearing about their afternoon was definitely unexpected, but incredible. To have those women and men invite Mads and Meg into their home is so cool. To bring people into your home and see your kitchen, couches, pictures, trinkets, etc. To me that shows trust, vulnerability, and acceptance.

That same evening (8/12), I went on a hike with the youth from church and as we were coming down the mountain I saw a rainbow. Rainbows have many different meanings and one is how they represent promises. I thought of the promises the Lord showed me the day before (in part 2). When I came home Mads and Meg told us about their afternoon. When they came home they too saw a rainbow, but they saw it over the brothel. They got excited because another meaning of rainbows is FREEDOM!

How cool is that! We thought to ourselves, wow the Lord wants to give these men and women freedom and give them the promises of eternal, unconditional love. And He will, but they will have to choose to take that step into freedom which isn’t easy to step into, but very possible.

I will be leaving Jaco tomorrow (8/18) and even though I’ll be leaving, Oceans Edge ministries plans to continue to reach the women in prostitution. They plan to open a business school and coffee shop with their new developments to give women other jobs.
