IN THE H E A R T

OF AFRICA

You are beautiful Malawi, Africa. Your people, your culture, your hearts, your smiles and so much more, are all so beautiful!

When we first arrived at the ministry location our hosts welcomed us with songs, smiles, laughter, and great hospitality. They had beautiful warm smiles and greeted us with much kindness. I felt so loved and accepted by the people. I still feel this everyday by the kids and students who say, “Bo” meaning, “Hi”, and when they surround us because they just want to be next to us.

I am super excited to learn more about the people and see how the Lord will be moving here. We have already seen the Lord move and answer many prayers and its been so cool to see those prayers get answered so quickly.

This first week has brought a lot of thankful lenses. We have beds with mosquito nets, a stove to cook, access to drinking water, an outhouse (lol I’m a weenie for not using it at night because of the cockroaches), bucket showers that cool us down, and the ability to go grocery shopping in the city 2 hrs away. We also don’t have wifi and that has been so good for us as a team and as individuals because there has been more intentionality with conversations and getting to know the people around us. There is much to be thankful for.

About the Ministry:

We are the first World Race team to be part of Rise Malawi and boy, I am glad to be here!

This ministry is very unique and is cultivating a generation of young men and women of hope. They empower their students and teach with a holistic approach that focuses on the spiritual, mental, physical, and environmental aspects of health within their community. They are learning and teaching how to be self-sustaining people, with the emphasis of knowing and growing in relationship with Jesus. They have programs that help kids from grade school through high school and others who are taking a gap year. Rise Malawi serves about 200+ kids.

85% of Malawi is rural and our hosts have a huge heart for their people in rural settings. Where we are this month is rural and it’s amazing to see people reach out to their own people and genuinely fight to raise up leaders. This ministry makes me excited because they have a big vision and are passionate in what they are doing in there community. This month will be a great month sharing Jesus, learning, using my skills and talents, and encouraging and loving the people in the community.

I have loved playing games and interacting with the kids!

Answered prayers:

Rain- It’s planting season, so in order to have food they need water to grow the plants. The day we prayed for rain, it came in less than an hour and so far it’s rained everyday since.

Host’s healing- She fell and had pain in her back, but the day after we prayed for her the pain and everything went away.

My team and I prayed to have barriers broken and the next day or two some of those barriers were broken.

We prayed for the program ‘Born to Fly’, which is a Child trafficking prevention course that the students are going through in the after school program. We prayed the Lord would use this class to prevent and educate the kids. The kids were responsive and they understood how to prevent child trafficking from happening in their own lives. Are still praying they would also teach their friends and family how to prevent it also.

Pray for the ministry and many things they are doing in the community. Pray that this month would be a month of growth and intimacy.

Thank you so much!

(Wifi is hard to come by here, so I’ll do my best to keep you all updated, thank you!)
