Being kind costs $0.00. I’ve always loved that saying. One thing I know is that you CAN’T buy time. Time is precious gift. Yesterday I was talking to one of my lovely mentors and she mentioned how she has always seen this gift that I have of being able to create relationships with people. At first I was like hmm…I don’t really know about that one seeing as how I feel like every time I turn around I am losing more friends but then I sat and looked around for a second.
I have built a lasting relationship with at least 2 beautiful middle school gals (one is about to be in high school on the varsity cheer team whaaaat, so exciting). When I walk in to youth on Wednesday nights I am not a leader, I am not a role model (in that moment), I am a friend. I am a friend because I have spent time with them. I have poured into their lives — digging into details and talking through hard places. I am their friend and they are mine. It didn’t cost me a dime to be kind and to talk to them about their day.
This reminds me of Jesus — He poured his life into his 12 disciples, he sat with them, he ate with them, he was their friend. Yes he was a role model but he poured into them and built relationships, built trust, he was the ultimate friend, he was truthful and he was kind. He wasn’t expecting any extravagant gifts, he didn’t want their money, he didn’t want anything except their time to show them how to lead the nations of all the people and disciple them and train them up to become leaders to lead people back to Christ.
That. right there. wow. Jesus never asked for anything in return. He just spent quality time with these men, leading and training them. So yes, being kind is free and time is a precious gift. I am so thankful to have a cool Jesus who even in a simple example shows me something so big.
Time is beautiful thing. Striving to no longer waste precious moments thinking about what is to come but instead living day by day and seeing where people are at in that moment.
Spending a lot of time today thanking God for all of those who have consistently prayed for me and my team on this upcoming journey, and thanking those who have donated more money than I can even fathom. I am so close to being fully funded (a little over $2,300) so please, if you are feeling led to give don’t hesitate to ask me questions I’d love to answer and talk — my email is [email protected] :)))) have a wonderful day and remember time is a precious gift
