Hey everyone this blog post is going to be REALLY different from my other blogs, because my Mom wrote it! Now I know what you’re thinking…that’s an odd title. Well, first I came up with it haha/ I think it sums up what this blog is going to be all about. Anyway, I know you came to hear what my Mom has to say so I’ll let her take it from here!
Well, not to long ago Kelsey asked me to write a blog for her. If you knew me, you would know that I have never done anything like this before. (Let’s face it, I come from the generation of landlines and payphones…)
Anyway, I have decided to share something with you all that God gave me as we were coming home from World Race Launch. (When all the gap sqauds head to Atlanta, GA to go to their first country.) When Kelsey told me she wanted to do this weird thing called the Race, I was very angry at first. I flatout told her “no way.” As a Mom I struggled with my daughter going so far away for so long. It’s not like she hadn’t gone away before, but in my mind the first trip to Haiti was not so far away, plus it was for only 10 days not 9 months. I wrestled with God for days about this thing, but He asked me if I wanted to be the reason my daughter didn’t live out His will for her life. I knew that I didn’t want to be responsible for that so, I finally surrendered her back over to God. This doesn’t mean that it wasn’t one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. There were a couple days that defiantly turned into meltdowns. However, I was reminded that God wants us to be obedient to His calling for our kids lives as well as our own. Just like Hannah, who had asked God for a son, only to give Him back to God. Her obedience to surrender and trust God was rewarded. In 2 Samuel 1 she was rewarded with 3 more sons and 2 daughters. Even though trusting God with the things you may find the hardest to trust Him with is not easy, He will reward your obedience.
Letting go of my daughter has brought it’s hard times, but God has truly made her journey mine. I have gotten to see God do great things in her life as well as mine. Trust God with everything, because everything is already His to begin with!
Anyway, that’s a word from my Mom. I hope it brought some encouragement to you. Thanks for writing a blog for me Mom! I will now add this hashtag in your honor since you had it in the draft, even though its kinda basic…#allforJesus. Love ya!
