Thailand Top 5:
5. Song kran- We celebrated Thai New Years and the beginning of rainy season by throwing buckets of water on people as they drove or walked past us. It was not only refreshing because it was 129 million degrees outside, but it was also an awesome way to bond with "the ice cream lady" , who took such good care of us this month.
4.Riding elephants- best 20 dollars I've ever spent. We got to ride elephants, ride in an ox cart, see an elephant show, eat a delicious Thai buffet lunch, and bamboo raft on a river. It was an amazing day off with my team and I loved it!
3. Boats and restaurant with the boys- this month while teaching English and worship to the boys, we tried to find creative activities for them to do. Two things we had them do were participate in a fake restaurant to practice their English (complete with menus, waiters, and gummy hamburgers) and building boats out of card board and trying to row them across the pond. Both made us laugh until we cried.
2. Zoo with the boys- After learning about animals, we took the boys to the zoo. It was really all about spoiling them, laughing with them, and letting them have a day where they could be normal boys and have a small taste of the childhood they should of had. We fed elephants and giraffes, ate ice cream, played on the playground, took pictures with pandas, raced mini 4-wheelers, and stopped at every food cart along the way. It was amazing!
1. Communion with the boys- This month The Lord has been teaching me a lot about thankfulness. So I decided to share a part of that with the boys by doing communion with them- one way of showing thankfulness to The Lord. After reading about the last super and explaining what communion was, we prayed individually. Seeing 9 teenage boys sitting around the table with their heads bowed, giving thanks to God and remembering what all he has done for them, is quite possibly the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. God is raising those boys up to a powerful army for him. They are a generation on fire for The Lord. They know what it's like to live without him. They have been on the other side. Their lives are a testimony of Gods power and redemption. And they ready to surrender everything they have to be the light god created them to be.
