I may not be traveling until August, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t already started my journey on The World Race!
My journey on The World Race started when I applied back in October, had my online interview in November along with my phone interview, and then was accepted December 12, 2015! The start of my journey has been exciting and full of hard work!
In the next few months leading up to my mission trip I have a lot of work to do! I have to fundraise money for my trip, book flights, attend training camp, apply for a visa to India, get immunizations, and physically train! There is lots to do and so little time!
As a part of my journey is to fundraise my trip. Asking friends and family to donate money is not the easiest thing to do. I am already out of my comfort zone and element. But I was told to put my trust in God, and that He will provide. Not without hard work though, fundraising has become another full time job on top of my already existing full time job. This fundraising is somewhat of a race in itself, a “race against time” because I have deadlines to meet. I have been working on getting fundraisers together to help raise the money. I have been blessed to have amazingly supportive people in my life who have already donated their hard earned money to help benefit me and my mission work around the world! I am extremely thankful to my friends and family who have already donated!
My mom and my little sister Jenna made me a 170 link paper chain to help me keep track of my fundraising progress! Every time $100 is donated I get to cut off a link! It’s extremely satisfying!
One of the hardest parts for me in preparing for this mission trip and travel is the immunizations! If you know me, you know I HATE shots! I have a huge fear of needles! Well “lucky” for me I have to get 7 shots! YIKES!So having a fear of shots I thought I would space them out as to not get too much anxiety and do about one a week until I was done. So I went in for my first shot, and ended up coming out with 2! The first one wasn’t as bad as I thought, so I just got another one! I was so proud of myself and thankful for my friend Riley who went with me to hold my hand! One week after my first shots I was back in the immunization room with Sabrina this time for one more shot, and again, I came out with 2! Apparently they like to surprise me!
(Left picture) Riley and I taking a proud selfie after two shots! One in each arm!
(Right picture) Sabrina and I eating our St. Patrick’s day bagels after another 2 shots!
Money is not the only way to support me on my journey! I would be blessed if you prayed for me as I continue my journey and start another part, the traveling! I also still have three shots to get, so many prayers would be appreciated!
Although it’s not August yet, my World Race journey has begun! I feel so blessed that God has called me to this journey of faith and adventure! I couldn’t be more thankful for everyone who is supporting me through this journey!
Many Blessings,
Kelsey
