I have been slacking in the blogging department the last two months. To make up for lost time, I wanted to show you a peek into my month in Phnom Penh, Cambodia last month. Enjoy!
Ministries
My main ministry for the month was homeschooling four of our ministry contacts’ children. I planned and taught a three week unit on the American Civil War and continued their work in other subjects. I loved every minute I spent with these incredible kids!
The rest of my team worked with the children at the BYKOTA (Be Ye Kind One To Another) House, a ministry for orphaned or abandoned children. Our contacts have been living in Cambodia for over ten years ministering to these beautiful children. It is a safe place for children who could otherwise fall into the hands of the numerous human traffickers found throughout the country.
Visiting the Killing Fields
Our contacts encouraged us to visit the Killing Fields, where just a few decades ago hundreds of thousands of Cambodians were tortured and murdered in a horrific genocide. Visiting this place, while emotionally draining, helped us understand the culture of the people here and what they have gone through.
An Outing For the Kids
We were very blessed with donations from supporters at home to take the children on a field trip/birthday celebration at a place called Kids’ City. The kids had a blast climbing on rock walls, learning with interactive science experiments, and playing laser tag! They do not have many chances to go on outings, and we were so excited to help make this special day possible for them!
More Fun in Cambodia
I was very proud of myself for eating a bite of a snake and a tarantula, commonly found in street food vendor stalls in Cambodia. As you can see, I was very excited about it. : )
We took a lot of rides in tuk-tuks all over the city. Here are my teammates Hailey, Lacey, and Rene on our first day in Phnom Penh!
We loved having Game Nights with the kids! Settlers of Catan was a favorite.
I hope you enjoyed this little look into my team’s month in Cambodia! Keep us in your prayers as we begin our final month in China in just a few days!
