Botswana was our last country in Africa. I really enjoyed exploring Southern Africa and working with the people there. Africa will always have a  place in my heart.

1. Pap/pup/papa – thick cornmeal type stuff, similar to ugali in Kenya 
2. Samp – like a creamy maize food
3. Homemade tortillas – thanks Melody
4. Fried chicken
5. Fat cakes – similar to a sopapilla but dense instead of puffy. Goes well with mustard or sugar/honey or plain
6. Mexican Nachos @ Johnny Jalapeños 
7. Cadbury chocolate with Oreo 🙂
8. Chakalaka – mix of black eyes peas and hot veggie mix
9. Pecan pie @ Mugg & Bean
10. Beef stew (with rice)

11 things I did:
1. Took a 13 ish hour bus ride with people I didn’t know to the BotsCRU retreat
2. Did village evangelism with UB students
3. Helped cool traditional African meals
4. Bucket showered for a week
5. Tented in Kasane at the retreat 
6. Went on a sunset safari boat cruise
7. Drove several times in a foreign country
8. Played Angels & Mortals – game similar to secret Santa
9. Helped lead two college students to The Lord
10. Attended an awesome BotsCRU Launch Party
11. Finished the Chronicles of Narnia book series (started in Swaziland)
 
11 things I learned :
1. Elephants roam freely around Botswana and there are more elephants than people
2. Half- price pizza night is a blessing!!
3. College students are pretty much the same stateside or abroad (and get frustrated with registration and don’t want to go to class)
4. You get REALLY close (maybe slightly claustrophobic) when there are 8 people living in a small office space.
5. C.S. Lewis really makes you think with his books, especially The Last Battle
6. Elephants can literally rip you apart if you cross them (sad story from Kasane about a mother elephant thinking a man got to close to her baby.
7.  Apparently a red light does not mean stop in Gabarone, it’s more a yield
8. You can learn a lot about a person by the Soularium cards they pick for themselves (and see how much they know about you when they pick them out for you)
9. Rebekah in the Bible had a nose ring
10. People really do watch how you live, interact, learn, fellowship, serve others – it’s cool the impact you can make in others. And always be aware someone – somewhere is watching.
11. During a Day with the Lord, a day of fasting, God speaks to everyone differently (because in case you didn’t know we aren’t all the same)
