Today, we celebrate the life of a man who stood out in history. A man who stood for what he believed in, brought people of every color, religion and background together for one reason – equality. Martin Luther King, JR is remembered today for his role in the Civil Rights Movement. He was a great speaker in his time and there are many memorable quotes from his speeches, sermons, letters and books.

I know many remember part of his “I have a dream speech,” delivered August 28, 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC – many just remember that line, but that is ok. ‘I have a dream’ is so powerful. Sometimes, I think we get so caught up in everything we forget to dream. As little kids we ‘dream’ of our careers and families, but somewhere along life’s path, those dreams are forgotten or pushed to the back burner. I encourage you to figure out what your ‘dream’ is and how to make it part of your reality.

Over the next 17 months, my world will change.  I have a dream that I will accept the change and know that God is in control. I have a dream that I will touch at least one person’s life over the next year. I have a dream that I will see God move in many ways. I have a dream that orphans, children, prostitutes, those who are in poverty, and basically anyone I meet along the way will feel loved. Rev. King also said “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” This year (and every year after), I choose love.

"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law? Jesus replied, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'  Matthew 22: 36-39 NIV

What is your dream?
