Many of you know I have struggled with food this month. Early on, I felt a weird sensation on my face when/after eating chicken curry. When I skipped the chicken I felt fine. We figured out I was allergic to some spice in the sauces. (I can handle heat, there is just something they use here I can't eat.)
This lead to me eating a lot of chapati (dense, greasy tortilla) and white rice in the evenings. Usually the villages serve chicken curry, chapati, dahl, white rice and curd. It was very hard for me to refuse the food with sauce. The people work so hard and just want to show us love. I ate most of what was served to me for almost a week straight. Finally one Sunday, the weird tingly sensation was so bad, it was my face, chest and arms. I took Benadryl and went to bed at like 7 pm.
It still breaks my heart (and my stomach is not always as full) to refuse the food. It has helped me to remember that while we do need food to survive, we have the Bread of Life. We can turn to Jesus for everything we need. He is our great Provider.
While I haven't been able to eat much, I definitely have not gone hungry. I am always able to find something to eat, fruit is more readily available then last month and I have snacks. (This is mainly so you mom types know I not starving.)
Food will be an issue in every country we go to, for at least one person on the race. It is different from American food. We may not like it, we may not be able to eat it, we may have to eat it anyway- but as long as we have Jesus, we have all we need.
Love y'all
PS I will try and get my Nepal video up here soon.
