Two posts in one week, whaaaat?!
This is just too good not to share, especially since I’m consistently needing reminding of this.

Like I said in my last blog, I have been really struggling with what I bring to the table since I dropped out of school and won’t be getting a degree or practicing in my field before I leave on the Race. I’ve been feeling quite inadequate because of this and it’s got me down in the dumps. But the Good Lord has taught me that not everything revolves around talents that “fulfills” economical purposes like our society tries to deceive us into believing.

Yesterday I started volunteering teaching 1st graders during one of the services at my church. One of the activities that we had our children do was to draw on a piece of paper things that they are good at and things they love doing. They then would have to explain how they can use their passions they had drawn to tell or show people Jesus. As I sat on the floor inside a tent with these children, they began to brainstorm what they loved to do aloud to me and the other teacher. Most of the kids drew themselves playing sports or singing, but two children had responses that made me realize that our talents, though not all of them physical, all have worth and are important.

One little boy said, “The thing I’m really good at is smiling. I love to smile!”

A little girl responded, “Oh! I love to give hugs! I’m the best at hugging.”

!!!! Guys. Six year olds get what we have forgotten over the years !!!!
This is extremely crucial and valuable to understand that everything you do that is significant to you and that you love is meaningful and altogether important! AND you can share the love of Jesus with the things you’re so passionate about!! Whether you love giving hugs or correctly guessing how the end of books will turn out or having the ability to tell when a friend is hurting and knowing how to help them without even asking or even telling the perfect joke, it’s all important and beneficial, especially in the body of Christ. I may not be good at public speaking or painting or even certain sports, but I am good at smiling and encouraging others and even cooking some mean eggs any way you’d like them. I have a knack for giving strangers compliments and suggesting books and music to people and that’s still so important because it’s what makes me ME and it’s what makes me happy. And through these things, I can show the love and graciousness of my Savior through being generous and kind and serving others.

Don’t worry about what the enemy tells you that you need to be good at in order to be successful or have value. Don’t think you can’t show the love and redemption of our Lord through your interests and passions because you can! And you will do it well simply because they are what make you you and you have worth and importance. You belong to a Creator that intricately wove you into existence and gave you gifts so unique, it would be a shame to waste worrying about what you wish you could do. They may seem like small actions to you, but they have lasting impacts on those around you.

So embrace yourself. Embrace your passions. Smile big (or hug someone) and let the world know that God is so so good and they are so worth it and loved.
