In two weeks, my squad and I will be heading off to training camp. TWO WEEKS! It’s so surreal how fast time is flying by and how soon I will be hopping on a plane to China. Jesus is blowing my mind every single day in this season of waiting and fundraising. I’ve seen my fundraising account go from scrambling to hit my second deadline by needing $3,000 more to getting the money and then some in a span of a week. I’ve been learning how to love as an action rather than a feeling and how to serve others better. I’ve learned the power of prayer and the transformation it can have on your life. However, the biggest lesson Jesus has been revealing to me these past few weeks has been the power of words and the authority the Lord has given to His children.

Words are mighty, and mighty is quite the understatement. God knew just how mighty words can be for He used words to speak everything into existence.

The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command.

Psalm 33:6,9

When God sent His Son to Earth, He gave Him the authority to do the same things with his speech. Jesus cast out demons (Luke 4:33-36), He healed the sick (Mark 2:1-12), He commanded the dead to walk again (Mark 5:35-42). He simply declared something to happen and it did because He believed it would.

As followers of Christ, we have the same kind of authority and power. Several times before Jesus was killed and resurrected, He told His disciples of the authority they had over evil.

One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases.
Luke 9:1

Look I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.
Luke 10:19

Jesus proclaimed we had authority and power through His verbal words. In Ephesians chapter 1, we see that God raised Christ “from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.” (Ephesians 1:20-21) BUT what makes this relate to us even more is that in Ephesians 2:6, it says that God “raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” Because we believe in Jesus Christ and follow Him, we are seated right next to Him and the authority that God gave to Jesus Christ has now been shared with US! I am so in awe of this Truth.

We have received power and authority through our Lord Jesus, which can be displayed through our words. Our Creator spoke things into existent. Our Master defeated evil by a stern command. And when we feel the enemy attacking us, we have the authority through Jesus to say “Not today” and command him to flee. We no longer have to succumb to evil. We can proclaim Light and the darkness fades. Our words carry so much power, so let’s use it to further the Kingdom of Heaven and speak Life into existence.

How are you going to use your words today?
