It’s still dark outside as my phone vibrates under my pillow. Sometimes I drift back to sleep, other times I jump up excitedly looking forward to seeing what God has in store when I start the day with Him.
I sit by the lake that we were extremely blessed to be placed by. Places like these seem far and few for World Racers. I sit and stare in awe as the sun makes its accent into the sky casting pink and purple hues on the nearby clouds. I dive into the Book of Mysteries and sit pondering the outstanding thoughts it evokes. We have some nice chats too in those early mornings before breakfast.
Next, we’re off to ministry! This month it’s looked like:
- Sweat dripping off your face after moving wheelbarrow loads of rocks from one location to another (or using other methods if all the wheelbarrows are being used)
- Meticulously packing rocks inside a tire to create a retaining wall to prevent the flood waters from coming into the orphanage
- Shoveling mud and gravel onto the finished wall to make it sturdy
- Building a compost crate and bench to teach students about composting and giving them a place to sit while they share meals with one another
- Adding the wood beams to the second floor of the future orphanage parent’s house that is still being built
- Sanding and varnishing tables and doors to add a little glisten to all who see them
- Planting avocados, watermelons, jalapeños, and onions and making signs out of wood and bamboo to create a garden for all to enjoy
- Creating a mural with encouraging verses to inspire everyone who comes into the room (Dre is an amazing artist)
- Putting together a medical clinic to serve the villages that don’t have access to it throughout the year with blood pressure readings, assessments, and medications
- Putting on multiple children’s churches full of songs, skits, and Bible stories using balloons
Then we finish off our days as the sun slowly starts making its way to the other side of the world. Some nights we enjoy a deliciously cooked meal by our amazing hosts who we’ve been able to share life with and be blessed and encouraged by! We sit around the table talking about the day and life in general. The we end with a game, encouragement, or processing before heading off to unwind through reading, watching movies, or sleeping early!
