feminism.

:the advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.

Hear me out please. This blog might be controversial to what your opinions are. Try and open your mind extra while reading this one.

In America, feminism has become somewhat of a trend. Not that its a bad trend, but I do believe it is turning into one. Why?

In America, women are essentially fighting against the wage gap and are fighting to show more shoulder in school. While in other countries, like India, women can often not show more than their eyes. In Africa, women are inferior to men in every circle outside of their family. In the Philippines so. many. women. are sexually trafficked while trying to find a real job to support their family of 6. These things are not limited to these countries either. These 3 things are also just 3 of MANY problems with women’s rights outside of America.

I personally believe that feminism in america is now fighting for women to be the superior, for power, and it has become almost a competition with men. I also personally believe men and women will never be equal. God didn’t make us to be.

I am reading this really really amazing book right now called 7 Women by Eric Metaxas; highly recommended!!! But before he gets into the 7 separate biographies he touches a bit on feminism in the preface. I really liked the way he worded his opinions, and also agree with them.

“Men and women are not interchangeable. There are things men can do and should do that women can not, and there are things that women can do and should do that men can not. So comparing men and women is something like comparing apples and oranges, except apples and oranges are actually far more like each other than are men and women. Apples and oranges can exist without each other, but men and women can not. Men and women were deliberately designed to be different. Indeed we are specifically created as compliments to each other, as different halves of a whole, and that whole reflects the glory of God. It’s patently obvious that we were physically created to fit together, and of course if that weren’t the case, we could not create life. So when men cease to be such or when women deny their uniqueness, they make that complementarily impossible, and the while, as it were, suffers. There’s much to be said on that subject, but the point to make here is that we are meant to be different and God wants us to celebrate and rejoice in our differences, never to suppress them or denigrate them.” -Eric Metaxas

My argument here is simply that there are larger issues going on in America right now, and as far as women’s rights go, it is a way larger issue in other countries – a larger issue than showing more shoulder in public school in america.

I am all for fighting for women. Girl freaking power! But I want to fight for women that can’t fight for themselves. Fight for women that live in a place where they aren’t allowed to embrace their God-given beauty and talent.

Now in America fighting for women’s rights in my opinion isn’t the biggest issue to be tackled or focused on right now. The wage gap is there, and it’s not not a problem, but it also isn’t a large wage gap at all. In Burundi, Namibia and South Africa women make 76-77% less than men, compared to America’s 18% gap. I am not saying it’s okay, but honestly, it isn’t that bad considerably.

Then, fighting to show more shoulder in school? What’s wrong with being a little modest? Dress code is NOT at all about protecting men from being “turned on” during school. It was originally made for modesty. Sin of the world has turned it into something that attacks men and women.

I think feminism in america has become anti-woman honestly because it’s pressuring women to be more like men. And to pit women against men is a form of denigration to women, as though their measure must be determined by masculine standards.

“Whether we like it or not, men and women are inextricably intertwined. Because the Bible says that we are made in God’s image—“male and female He created them” (Gen. 1:27)—the fortunes of one are so linked to the fortunes of the other that there is no way to lift one without lifting the other and no way to degrade one without degrading the other. So whenever men have used their positions of authority or their power to denigrate women, they have denigrated themselves and have denied themselves the fullness of manhood God intended for them. When women have tried to ape the behavior of power-hungry men, they have degraded themselves and denied themselves the dignity of being above that vulgar fray.” – Eric Metaxas

I know that we as men and women were created to compliment each other. Let’s start complimenting each other, lifting each other up. As women let’s lift other women up, not just in America. Let’s lift each other up as daughters of the King of kings. As sisters in Christ. Let’s not stop there. Let’s lift men up too. As sons of the King of Kings, our brothers in Christ. As a body of Christ let’s lift each other up. Imagine the impact that would have on the world!
