Soft music playing in the background, people pacing and saying fierce prayers, voices ringing out with praise, sincere requests being made in the stillness of hearts, twenty or so people (Rwandan, Ugandan, American…brothers and sisters in Christ) together to just be in the presence of God.  This is how my night ended on Tuesday.

When we stepped foot into this room, you could already feel the spirit.  We were told that God always shows up…and he did not disappoint.  This two-hour prayer session started with these words: The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. James 5:7 Your prayers have the POWER to change ANYTHING!  We then had freedom to pray however the Spirit led.

My mind went in all directions…prayers for the squad…each individual person, for our mentor, our coaches…for each individual member of the team I am with. For my family…Rwanda…past and present hosts, ministries, and people I’ve encountered through the race…my future…the list went on and on.  I also had a sweet time of just sitting with God and him revealing truths which I drew out.

This isn’t the first time I’ve experienced God’s presence like this in Rwanda.  The other was a worship night at the place where we are staying.  We worshipped for over two hours and I wished it could have gone on and on…when we were worshipping, I had this overwhelming feeling: This is what heaven will be like.  Literally in the presence of God 24/7…with my brothers and sisters…and it’s going to be amazing!

Two songs have been on my heart lately… Heaven Song by Phil Wickham and Restless by Audrey Assad. Here are a few lyrics from each that have just been resonating…

I want to run on greener pastures I want to dance on higher hills I want to drink from sweeter waters In the misty morning chill And my soul is getting restless For the place where I belong I can’t wait to join the angels and sing my heaven song

You dwell in the songs that we are singing, Rising to the Heavens, rising to Your heart, Your heart. Our praises filling up the spaces In between our frailty and everything You are You are the keeper of my heart

And I’m restless, I’m restless ‘Til I rest in You, ’til I rest in You I am restless, I’m restless ‘Til I rest in You, ’til I rest in You Oh God, I wanna rest in You
