As I hear the rain gently fall down outside, I think about the day I have had and what I have learned and experienced. Today began the first full day with my new team. We began in prayer, praying that the rain would hold off so we could complete our assignments today.
Our assignment was to try to grow in God’s spirit and listen to God’s voice. This morning Jimmy talked to us about our day. He said we would be going into a primarily Hispanic community. We were going to experience on a smaller scale trying to communicate with people of different languages and cultures. Before the trip into town, we prayed. Jimmy asked specifically that we try to see what God wanted us to see, or hear what God wanted us to hear, but in whatever form to be in tune for God’s leading. He asked our whole team to pray and all of us to write down whatever thing as small and insignificant or grand and weird as we might imagine, write it down on a paper. To collect all the information from our group, then to go to our locations and pray and be willing to see where God was leading us.
We prayed and we sat there praying. At first I began to gently rock back and forth, like keeping rhythm or rocking a baby. Then uncontrollably my left leg began to bounce up and down at my knee. I got an image of a truck at first, quickly, then it moved to a house, a house you might see in the Midwest on a lake or on a tract of land around water. It had a big porch and cedar shingles on the front part by the roof in that arch area. It had a detached garage and a gravel driveway. The house had a short white picket fence. I saw the kitchen of the house and it had and older style, like maybe 70’s style kitchen table and chairs with windows in the breakfast eating area. Then all of the sudden my other leg really started to shake up and down as well and in my minds eye I saw darkness around the front door. Almost like where I once saw the front door I couldn’t find it because it was blackness now there. And I saw a basement and lots of darkness there. This made me cry, maybe because I wasn’t understanding what exactly what I was seeing, maybe because I wondered what impact this sight might have in our lives if any. Then we finished praying. We all gave our interpretations of what we saw. I told mine. We wrote it down. Katie said she saw a Hispanic or black boy and me in the vision. John saw a rainbow sprinkler and waves through it and faces in it all different kinds. Jesse saw a marketplace…the type you might see in Bolivia.
So we headed out to our designated place to begin our trip. It ended up we were parking in a Dollar Store parking lot with a couple other groups and taking off from there. Our group was the first to arrive. We went in to the store and got a few things and tried to just meet some people in the community. Our leader showed up and we headed out walking. Lana and Jesse said “hmm, yeah its gonna be really amazing to find a house that has all of that stuff together at one place”. We walked across the parking lot and came up to the edge of the street. The house that was straight in front of us was a white house with a white picket fence, detached garage and dark area around the front door. It had a truck parked right in front of it. We kind of looked at each other and said, “well there is the house what are the chances”
and I said, “yeah it even has the wood shingles up on the front by the roof.” I burst into tears. Bill looked at me and said, “ok so Kelly and I are going to be going up to that house”.I think in that moment it cemented to our whole team, that we truly
were hearing the voice of God. Whatever happened the rest of the day, we knew that we were being obedient to His will. Stepping out in faith like we had never done before. To be continued …
