Hey everyone! Well, I just posted a blog about our experience with the Jesus Film, but I wanted to post another quick blog to let you know what else is going on. This is probably the last time I am going to have internet for a while (I’ll get there in a minute), so I want to take advantage.
I have really enjoyed our time in Mozambiqe so far. We have been able to participate in several different ministries, and it has been good to have a few weeks with just Team Bamboo. Like I mentioned in my last blog, we have been doing some manual labor around the Iris base where we are staying. We have been planting trees, and we have also been able to do some painting, which has been fun. Here are some before and after pics of the room we have successfully painted so far…
Last weekend, we were also able to hand out mosquito nets to our neighbors. We walked around on Saturday and handed out vouchers for nets, and invited people to church. If the people came to church on Sunday, they could redeem their voucher for a net. Many people came to the service on Sunday, and it was great to be able to share the Gospel with people and provide them with a mosquito net at the same time.
We have also been able to spend some time visiting a nursing home that is across the street. It has definitely been my favorite ministry so far. The first time we went, we were setting up mosquito nets in the resident’s rooms. I was shocked by the horrible living conditions for these elderly people. Most of the rooms smell like urine. Many of the residents do not have beds- they sleep on straw mats on the floor. It broke my heart to see, but I knew I wanted to go back. We have been going back in the afternoon, and it has been so great to get to know some of the people who live there. It has been a challenge not speaking the language, but I am learning more and more that language doesn’t always have to be a barrier. This afternoon, Marissa and I sat with some of the women and painted their nails, and they were so excited. I love it when it is so easy to show someone God’s love, to bring some hope and light into a dark place.
Unfortunately, our time in Mozambique is getting cut shorter than we had originally planned. Instead of staying until the 18th, we are leaving here on either the 13th or 14th. We are traveling to meet the rest of our squad, and we will then all travel to Malawi. It is going to take us three days to get to Malawi, so please please keep us in your prayers as we travel. I am doing well, but please continue to pray for a renewed energy for myself and the rest of my team. I think we are all sort or reaching new levels of exhaustion and we are in major need of an energy boost. Please pray that we would have strength keep going, and that we would continue to understand what it means to rest in God. Thank you so much for all of your prayers. Love!!
