I have really been enjoying my time in Malay Balay, Philippines. The kids here are so precious, and I have loved getting to spend time with them everyday. We even got to take them to a water park last week!

On this trip, we have had the chance to work at a variety of orphanages: ranging from really depressing, institution style orphanages, to warm, loving childrens’ homes. I am happy to report that the orphanage we are currently working with definitely falls into the latter category. The kids are well cared for in a loving, Christian environment. I love seeing how the children and the workers really are a family. They take care of each other. The older kids watch out for the younger kids. The workers truly love the children and vice versa. It is amazing to see orphans being care for the way I believe Jesus wants them to be cared for.

Every time we have had the opportunity to work with orphans, God has reminded me of his heart to be the “father of the fatherless.” Working in this home this month, I have seen how God is able to truly be a father to the fatherless in our broken world. There is a verse painted in the baby room that I really love:

As I have worked with the children this month, I have prayed this verse over them. I have prayed that God would truly hold them close and that they would come to know their heavenly father. I have prayed that redemption, not abandonment, would be the theme of their lives. That they will know that even though they may have lost their Earthly parents, God chose to rescue them. He chose to give them a new life.

Much like what He does for all of us.
