“He has sent me to preach good news to the poor, bind up the broken hearted and proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. Isaiah 61:1
Welcome to the World Race- Kelly Edition!
Thanks for taking the time to visit! This blog is meant to capture my thoughts, experiences and anything and everything that will happen on this trip! I would love for you to explore and get to know more about me and my ministry!
Here is my planned route and a little bit about each country that I will be traveling to!
Kenya– Who hasn’t heard of Kenya in their lifetime?
The Kenyan people are colorful, musical, artistic and hungry for the love of Christ. The Maasai bush,
the Nairobi metropolis, and the Kibera slums comprise a country diverse yet unified in history.
As a new era dawns in Kenya, so does the Gospel of truth and faith. By meeting felt needs in the bush and the city, the World Race produces lasting fruit
and lasting ministries to carry on even after we leave.
This diversity creates a colorful landscape of people and beliefs. Whether we are doing open-air crusades, door-to-door evangelism or visiting hospitals and orphanages the people of this diverse country will capture our heart.
and unreached with the Gospel of Christ. Through evangelism, church planting and discipleship, we will be a part of a movement to further the kingdom of God in this incredible region of the world.
As we delve into this culture of works-based religion, strong self-discipline, and uncanny faith, we will have the unique opportunity to deliver hope and point the people to their Redeemer.
just over 96% of Cambodia is Buddhist. Almost 30 years ago, 1.5 million Cambodians died at the hands of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge regime. Today, Cambodia is a source, transit point and destination of human trafficking and the government is struggling to stop it. The people of Cambodia are thirsty for the hope we can bring.Vietnam–After nearly a century of French rule, in the mid-20th century, Vietnam was split into communist (north) and non-communist (south) halves. By 1975, Vietnam was made whole again, but as a communist country.
Even with the economic reforms and restoration of diplomatic ties human rights are limited in Vietnam, especially freedom of religion; most of Vietnam is Buddhist, less than 10% is Catholic. Here we’ll be fed with pho, delicious beef noodle soup, and in turn feed believers and pray God’s light and presence everywhere we go.
The Filipino people and culture love music and dance and community. While there, we may find ourselves living with and giving hope to the destitute, caring for orphans, and challenging the growing number of Christ-followers to rise up.
Depending on where you are, you may meet Buddhists, Muslims, and Taoists; there are even churches –government approved and regulated. The underground church is extensive and continues growing, even thriving amidst of persecution. While there, you’ll have to pay homage to the Great Wall, and bring light and hope to a people in darkness and depression. How you’ll do that exactly – you’ll find out once you get there.
Thankfully, there’s hope, light, and life spreading like wildfire throughout this nation. Is it the kingdom of God coming in power? We think so.Moldova– Once a part of Romania, this former Soviet republic declared independence in 1991. Moldova, one of the poorest European countries, is riddled with a high underground crime rate. This country is vulnerable
as a transit point of human trafficking. The main language spoken is Romanian (also called Moldovan) but there’s debate as to what the Moldovan ethnicity is exactly. We want to bring Kingdom clarity and declare the peace of God over a land filled with confusion and chaos.
Here, we will teach English, lead sports camps, live life with the gypsies, and more. It will be an exciting time of learning about a people group we may not have known even existed.
