Here’s a quick Kenya update.  We have been super busy since arriving at our ministry that there has not been a lot of time for blogging.

Our ministry is with Bliss Women and Children Project in Nakuru, Kenya.  The first few days were spent with the children at the school.  We played with the kids all day long, then met with a group of pastors we would be doing crusades and revivals with for 3 hours of prayer and worship.  The week also met with difficulty; one of the women on the team made the decision to leave the race, feeling this was God’s calling for her.  We all supported her but there has definitely been a hole in the team since she left.

As if these things are not enough to relax us after an intense ministry day, we have Beauty Queen.  Don’t judge me or my team for what I am about to confess.  Beauty Queen is a Philippino Soap Opera that has been dubbed into very monotone English.  It is so bad that it has gone past bad and back to awesome.  We have all become enthralled by it…probably because we haven’t seen a television in 5 months.  Wait, I have to retract my last statement.  Not ALL of us.  Beauty Queen stresses Kate out, big time.  Anyway, Beauty Queen tells the story of a beautiful woman named Maita, who sells fish at the market.  Her best friend, Dante, is in love with her but she doesn’t know it.  She is in love with Mark, a very wealthy man whose mother does not approve of the relationship.  Rebecca, the evil girl, is in love with Mark and is always scheming to get him away from her.  So it’s kind of like this huge love triangle, except it’s not.  Because there are 4 people.  It’s a love rhombus.  So, just to fill you in…Mark got stabbed, but he is fine now.  Rebecca thought she was pregnant with Mark’s baby, not true (p.s. she is also bulimic).  Maita beat Rebecca in the Beauty Pageant and Rebecca tried to commit suicide.  Rebecca decided to defeat Maita once and for all, so she put a bomb on Maita’s plane.  Everyone thinks Maita is dead but she actually washed up on an island and now has been kidnapped by her stalker (oh, I forgot to mention that Maita has a stalker).  She tried to escape but was burned in a fire.  That is where we have left off.  Like I said, don’t judge.  Even missionaries need an escape.
