Where is my hope? Where do I find my satisfaction? What am I pursuing to find joy, contentment, and peace?

Prior to 2008, I answered these questions with two things – circumstances and people. I was validated by my accomplishments and how I was perceived by others. I had a false sense of security. Underneath these perceptions, I was struggling. My pursuit of approval from others was not satisfying. The importance I placed on accomplishment was not satisfying. Of course I didn’t realize it then, but hindsight is 20/20 right?

Now for the celebration: Jesus Christ consumes my soul. He has my whole heart. God has freely given Himself to me. My Father loves me unconditionally. Jesus Christ has redeemed me. The Holy Spirit lives inside me. What more could I ask for?

I was shown recently that my focus is always centered on one of four things: my circumstances, other people, myself, or the Lord. Do you agree? I’ve found this to be one of the best questions I can ask myself. If I am consumed by anything but God – the Creator, Savior, and Redeemer – I am not living in the fullness of life that I have been freely given.

This morning, rather than pursuing accomplishment or a certain image, I can make the decision to pursue Jesus. I can delight in who God is, infinite yet personal. I can choose to live in the fullness of life that I am offered through the Holy Spirit.

What about you? Where is your focus today? Where are you finding your satisfaction and joy?

I ask because I want YOU (not your family member or friend or co-worker) to experience the fullness of life and freedom that is found only is Jesus Christ. I write because I love you – not with my own heart – but with the heart of Christ who first loved me. Jesus wants your focus. He wants your whole heart.

If you want to know more, email me! I’d love to know where you’re at. I also love blog comments. 🙂

I’m currently in Antigua, Guatemala. Just finished our first month of ministry at Los Gozosos. This post reflects a small portion of what the Lord has spoken to me this month. I leave early tomorrow morning on a bus to Honduras. Thanks for reading!
