I was able to go back this morning to Langata Primary School to the same 7th grade class I was able to teach last week. As i walked in to cheers and smiling faces, I realized this was another reason I love Kenya. These precious children were so excited to see me back and I knew it was going to be a good day.

I was having a hard time deciding last night what to talk to them about today. Then God placed on my heart Ephesians 6 and the armor of God. I knew I needed something fun to engage this class of 7th graders that I knew were full of expectancy and energy. Back in Malaysia, my teammate Amy had come with actions to go along with each piece of armor to teach the kids.

 Perfect!

So today we went through all the armor of God and talked about what each one meant. Let me tell you what, these African children are smart and know their Bible! They might make fun of my accent (my southern twang is very different from their African swahili accent) but I think they loved learning about the armor that equips them to fight against the enemy. So this is how it went….

(you must imagine this shouted at the top of African children’s lungs…feel free to participate to get the full effect)

The Armor of God is…!!

the belt of truth!

(get your belt stance on with one foot in front of the other holding your belt)

the breastplate of righteousness!

(a little harder to explain, but they understood nonetheless. ok, beat your chest with both fists while saying this one.)

shoes which are the gospel of peace!

(crouch down to your feet and whisper this one please)

the helmet of salvation!

(act like you are putting on a helmet, then spread out your arms to look like the cross)

the shield of faith!

(get that belt stance on again, but this time hold up your arms like a shield)

the sword of the spirit!

(wave your arm like it is a sword and you are fighting off the devil!

AMEN!

(please shout this when you are done!)

ok, I realize this may sound slightly childish to some of you, but I challenge you, just like i challenged my class today, to put on this armor everyday. The devil is alive and waiting to feed you lies and keep you from doing the things God has for you. So if it takes shouting the armor of God and doing fun motions in front of the mirror every morning, do it! remind yourself of the armor and weapon (the sword!) that God has given you to fight off the enemy. Don’t be caught off guard, be ready to be bold and take action!

if you would like to see why else my day has been wonderful so far, I invite you to read my next blog….

and stay tuned for a video of my 7th graders as soon as i find internet capable of loading a video!
