Weddings. That word pretty much sums up this and last summer for me. Three of my friends asked me to be a bridesmaid in their weddings last summer. I attended a friend’s wedding after returning from Kenya early this summer and was in two more just recently, one of them being my big sister’s. 🙂

Weddings are lovely. They get me thinking about love, and friendship, and commitment, life-long, til’ you’re gray-haired and wrinkly-sitting on the porch drinking coffee in rocking chairs-type of commitment. The crazy beautiful kind.

I think my favorite part of being in weddings is that I’m front-row to the action. I get to see all of the guests, the bride as she strolls down the aisle, and my favorite! the look on the groom’s face as his bride approaches…

Just like everything else, weddings point to and are all about Christ. I am reminded of His love for me and each one of us when I see the love and excitement on the groom’s face when his bride walks toward him. How much more does Christ look at us, the Church, His bride, with love and adoration?

“…as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.” Isaiah 62:5b

This image of a bridegroom’s delight over his bride is just a glimpse of how much God loves and delights in us through Christ. God loves you with an individual, everlasting love. Not only that, but He delights in you and I! So thank you, weddings, for reminding us of His amazing, amazing love!
