We took in four boys four or five months ago. Timelines get a bit fuzzy for me here in Kenya. We live together, get up together way too early to get them ready for school, go on little trips together—we’ve become a family.
We went to the pool the other day. The weather is starting to get warmer here. Our seasons are opposite from those of the States, but there are really only two seasons here: rainy and hot.
The boys are learning how to swim, and this has made for some interesting experiences/stories. They were yelling at me from the other end of the pool to come watch them, so I did. I feel like my parents must have felt when they took us swimming. Every couple of seconds the boys would call out, “Kelli, look at me!” “Kelli, see?” Or, “Kelli, am I floating?” And each wanted me to watch them swim-they wanted my attention.
They wanted to know that they were seen.
They wanted to know that they were known.
God reminded me as I watched them, that we are all this way. He created us with the innate desire to be seen, known, and loved.
We are all looking for fulfillment of this desire somewhere or in someone. And just as I want these children to receive these things from me, so also God wants me to find them in Him.
The Creator of the universe sees you. He knows you. He loves you. And He is enough.
