I know I said I would blog more… And that hasn’t really
happened much yet. But in order to not get super overwhelmed by blogging, I
think I will just post little happenings of my life here in Kenya each week
with pictures so ya’ll can have a better idea of what life is like here.  : )

Since it has been awhile, below are some updates on what has
been happening here!

And then there were
four…

We said goodbye to our teammate, Courtney, at the end of
April. Before we came back to Kenya in February, she felt the Lord calling her
away from Kenya. She is still a part of our team though, raising money for
projects and raising awareness for the people we serve.

Bracelets for
education…

Cristianna and I have been doing a project with the women to
help them pay for their children’s school fees. They make bracelets that we
send back to the States for Courtney to sell at churches. The money that we earn is then funneled back into this and other projects. The women make a certain amount of bracelets for the amount of school fees they owe and the money is then taken directly to the school. Alice (below) is making fabric bracelets to put two of her children, Timothy and Dennis, in school. Now her boys and 25 other students who were being kicked out now regularly attend school!

“Shamba in a sack”…

There is a school for missionary kids across the street from
where we live called Rift Valley Academy (RVA). This past Saturday, 30 sixth
graders from RVA came to Camp Tumaini and made a “shamba in a sack” with the families. Now
15 families will harvest a batch of skuma wiki (like spinach) in a few months
in these vertical gardens and be able to plant more crops in a small space when
it isn’t rainy season. It has been awesome to have the Lord use our team to
connect RVA with Camp Tumaini and see the relationship developing.

Discipleship…

God has shown us that our focus in Kenya isn’t solely Camp
Tumaini. He has been bringing many young people into our lives and is showing
us that He wants us to pour into them, because He is
moving in and through them! They, not us, are the ones who are going to remain here, who are going to change their community and Kenya! So the team and I have been meeting with a group of young people who live in the camp, as well as spending time with them individually. We are getting
to know them and are hearing about their hopes and dreams. We are excited about
what God is doing and the direction He is taking all of us!

Thanks for reading, thanks for caring. Know that for those of you who pray for me and/or for my team and I, we feel your prayers and appreciate them!
