Yesterday I came home to 16 young men and 1 young woman sitting in our living room. They were 17 of the 27 kids 61project is supporting to attend high school this year.
Fred and I met with them and caught up on the past month and a half of life. Then we talked about goals for 2014. Some of the questions I wanted them to ask themselves were: What do you want to accomplish in 2014? At the end of 2014, what do you want your report card to say? What are some ways you want to grow spiritually this year? And how do you plan to accomplish these goals?
They all had their own answers, and set their own goals.
I was just struck by the potential in the room. The potential in each and every one of them. The mark of God on their lives. The story He is writing for them and engaging them in.
God is interested in who they are becoming. He is interested in them knowing and being reminded of who they are. He is interested in them understanding their potential and accessing that. He is interested in them no longer blaming or being victim to their circumstances, and for them to mature and take control over their lives and their decisions. He is interested in them taking full advantage of the opportunity that has come straight from His hand.
And Fred and I had the privilege of encouraging these things in them at the start of this new year.
These kids can and will change Kenya. Some of them already are. God has huge plans for their lives, and we have only just seen a glimpse.
To those of you who pray, read our blogs and share the story, and support financially-know that you are impacting these 27 lives, not only academically, but in every way. They have a chance at a brighter future. They know who God is. They are loved. And they are learning more and more about who they are as a result. And now they have the opportunity to access more of their God-given potential. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
And thank you on behalf of these 17 world-changers in our living room.
*I have been back in Kenya for one week now! The past week, I have caught up with the boys and our volunteer staff, paid school fees, gotten our three boys ready for school, had meetings with the sponsored kids, and am taking them shopping for books and for a few of them, things they will need for boarding school. The week has flown by!
