I think most of us, Christian or not, look around for signs of God on earth moving amongst us. I believe we even look for ways we can move with God. People desire to see and be a part of heaven colliding with earth.

Usually though, we look for something grand and amazing. We expect heaven to come down like a meter or to shake the world like a catastrophic earthquake, but it rarely happens like that. God doesn’t usually save millions of people at once. He doesn’t usually eradicate an entire disease, or even heal an entire hospital. Though He can and does work like this, it isn’t how he usually moves.

When heaven touches earth, it is usually quiet. It’s like a whisper or a pebble splashing into to huge lake.

When God spoke to Elijah on the mountain he wasn’t in the thunder or in the earthquake, he whispered in his ear. When God sent the Messiah, he brought him in a lowly manger, quiet and unassuming. When God raised Jesus from the dead, he did it in such a way that no one knew until they came to the tomb. God moves in a quiet way.

Heaven often meets earth like an elephant walks – without a sound but with an undeniable presence. Heaven meets earth in those little moments when God shows us who He is.

Heaven meets earth in the small acts of kindnesses.
Heaven meets earth when an Indian women fans your face while you are helping move bricks up a hill.
Heaven meets earth when your host makes you a birthday cake in a country where birthdays aren’t known.
Heaven meets earth when you encourage your friend.
Heaven meets earth when you pay someone’s water bill.
Heaven meets earth when you notice your neighbor.
Heaven meets earth when you stand up for someone at school.

God moves on earth when we do the little things that show someone his love for them. God is moving on earth and we can be a part of that collision. We can help heaven meet earth.

How do you see God moving in your life and world? How can you be a part of heaven meeting earth this week?
