I’m about to let you in on a little secret: I AM NOT VERY RELIGIOUS. Yep, the cats out of the bag. It’s true, I don’t do religious things, I don’t think like a religious person, and things that seem religiously phony or overtly religious or just obnoxiously religious makes my skin crawl. By my skin crawling, I mean, like I took a bit to much meth, and I literally feel like bugs are crawling out of me (*NOTE-I have never actually experienced this or done drugs, but it sounds horrendous).
That being said, I hate it when people Jesus Juke. Jesus Juking happens when someone out of the blue changes a completely normal conversation- or even a joking one- into something serious or holy or spiritual. Basically, Jesus Juking is when people bring Jesus into everything.
For example: If someone’s having a bad day, instead of listening you tell them God’s there for them. This is true, but let’s listen first before we pull Jesus in. Jesus Juking turns people off to Christianity. It can create shame in some situations; it doesn’t create good conversations, and it doesn’t lead people to Christ.
And Here we have a Jesus Juke
In short, I hate it when people Jesus Juke!!! But, I’m about to Jesus Juke you, so please accept my apology in advance.
This all came about because someone close to our family has cancer. Because so many people care and want to help, her family created a blog to keep everyone updated.
Like all blogs, they have room for comments at the bottom. Whenever something good happens, people comment things like: “That’s great! God is so Good!” or “God is taking care of you”. But when the news isn’t so positive, no one says that. Maybe people will offer up prayer, but no one mentions how good God is.
But the truth is, GOD IS NO LESS GOOD when things aren’t going our way as He is when they are. GOD IS NO LESS GOOD when we get bad news than He is when we get good news. GOD IS NO LESS GOOD when we’re struggling than He is when we’re not.
No one wants to hear that God is good when things go wrong, or we’re struggling because it doesn’t seem that way, but God is still there for us. He’s still carrying us through. He’s still taking care of us. GOD IS GOOD in EVERY situation whether we feel it or not.
My point is NOT to go around telling people that God is good when they’re going through something hard. My point is that even when we don’t see it or believe it GOD IS GOOD. He doesn’t love us any less, and He hasn’t abandoned us. My point is, God is Good. So, be aware of how awesome He is even when we’re too close to the situation to see it.
God is Good. He is taking care of our friend and her entire family as they go through this hard time. So please pray for them. God will continue to be there for them as they walk through this hard time, and He will do the same for you.
