While I’m on the World Race I will be spending a lot of my time living out of a tent. This is going to be a new experience for me. I love hiking and camping, so it won’t be a total shock. But 11 months in a tent is a long time.

The tent that I bring is going to be my home from July 2014 to May 2015, so the tent I got needs to be able to last a long time. Fortunately for me, my family loves backpacking. My brother, dad, and uncle enjoy carrying 20 lbs on their back and hiking 50 plus miles in 5 days. More power to them, but leave me out. But as I prepare for the World Race this passion of theirs has benefited me.

In fact, my uncle bought me a tent!! This was my Christmas gift (which I wasn’t supposed to get till March). My uncle did all kinds of research. He looked at durability, spaciousness, weight, and I’m sure all kinds of other things too. He picked out an awesome tent for me and sent me a picture of a tent for Christmas. I got told he was waiting until March to buy it. Cool!

Well, it got delivered a little early . . . 3 months early. Here is the short version of how I got my tent so early.

My uncle got asked by a friend in marketing if he would come in and tell them about the outdoor sports he does because the marketers have a client they were working with and wanted some ideas and help with their pitch. So he agreed because he thought it sounded like fun.

He went in and answered all kinds of questions. Told them how he did research, what he did outdoors, why he did it. Fun stuff like that. Basically he spent some time talking about how cool his hobbies are.

At the end of the interview they told him that their client is Kelty and gave him a $100 gift certificate to use on the Kelty website. Needless to say, my uncle was pretty excited. The tent he wanted to get for me was a Kelty tent, so he used the gift card to buy the tent.

It’s amazing to see God line everything up to help get me to the World Race. Here’s the sequence:

1)      My uncle gets ask to help a friend with a marketing pitch (of all people my uncle)

2)      That friend happened to be pitching Kelty

3)      They were kind enough to give him a Kelty gift certificate for his time

4)      My uncle just happened to want to buy me a Kelty tent . . .

You tell me if that’s God or not. Here’s a few more.

The new job I got requires me to call strangers on the phone for 6 hours a week (which is something I used to hate doing) and I need to do that to help me fundraise.

It also requires me to talk to strangers. Which I have become comfortable with in time to help me fundraise.

I was able to get a second job to help me pay for school expenses and some WR expenses and still play Lacrosse!!!

God is in all things and he has been preparing me for this trip since before I even knew I was going on it. Honestly, God is working in my life and the lives of others to help me go on this journey. God is moving. He is blessing the my team of supporters and me as I go do this.
