Most people I know who’ve accepted Christ have these awesome stories about how putting their faith in Jesus made their life better. Whether they found joy in life, were personally changed for the better, or had a 180 degree life transformation, the plot is the same. It could have been instantaneous or taken time, again the same plot exists.
Well, my story doesn’t really follow the usual plot.
Before I put my faith in Jesus, I knew exactly who I was (I really did). I knew exactly what I wanted out of life and how I was going to get it. I knew where my life was going and I had a path. And I was 99% confident that I could get there. Everything changed when I accepted Christ.
Accepting Christ marked the end of life as I knew it. It completely changed my life and here’s how:
I don’t have a clue who I am.
What I want out of life and what God has planned for me are different – and I don’t know how either are attainable.
I have no idea where I will be in 6 months or where I want to be.
I have absolutely no idea how to get where I’m supposed to go (wherever that is).
And this is just a short list. You see, I’m headed out into the world to share the love of Jesus with everyone I meet, and I am so excited about doing it. But for all those nonbelievers out there here is my WARNING to you.
If you like who you are…
If you know what you want out of life…
If you like being independent…
If you want to make your own decisions…
If you’re confident in your own abilities…
If you think you’re fine as you are…
DO NOT ACCEPT JESUS and the salvation that comes through Him. Because it will change you, it will change you’re direction in life. You see, building a relationship with Christ means losing yourself and rediscovering yourself in the image of God and taking part in His plan for your life. So, if you are fine the way things are, or you don’t like change, Jesus is NOT for you.
But, there’s more too it. My life has been completely turned upside down. Sometimes I’m surprised by my reaction or actions and sometimes I look in the mirror and go “Who is that?” because I’m not who I used to be. –I’m better–
With Jesus comes joy, security, someone to carry you when you can’t walk on your own, love, and kindness. Jesus changes your heart and directs you to do things that without Him would be impossible- things beyond your wildest dreams. For example: traveling the world to do missions for 11 months and going to 11 countries.
In other words, ACCEPTING CHRIST RUINED MY LIFE, but it’s the BEST DECISION I EVER MADE.
