Long time no see! (My bad)
Since my last blog update, our squad has been through a lot.
We’ve switched teams, we’ve hopped continents, and we’ve officially spent a month in Asia!
When we arrived in our first Asian country, Vietnam, we spent a few days together as a squad. During that time we processed our time in Africa together, adjusted our mindsets for ministry in Asia, and switched teams.
As you know, our teams are the few people we spend most of our time with throughout the months on the Race. I’d love to introduce you to my new team, Team Mosaic!
Our team is made up of Jamie, Irma, Skylar, Tenaya, Erin, Brandi, and myself. You can find all of their beautiful faces on the left side of this page!
During our month in Vietnam, our team was placed in a small mountain town called Dak Glei. There we partnered with our amazing hosts, Tuy and Vi (and their sweet little girl Narea), who run an English teaching center called the Agape Center.
While we were there, we helped teach English to kids, teens, and adults alike. Turns out, we love teaching English, but we love making friends even more. The friendships we fostered in and outside of the classroom in Vietnam are so special.
If there’s one thing our friends in Vietnam taught me, it’s the power of extreme hospitality and how to love people sacrificially. You can’t walk into a home in Vietnam without being met by a warm welcome, a few cups of tea, and quite possibly an entire meal.
I want to be more like my Vietnamese friends in that way. I want to be the kind of person that makes people wonder “What did I do to deserve to be met with such warmth and love and kindness?”.
We taught English. We learned a traditional Vietnamese Christmas dance (please enjoy the following picture from our Christmas Eve performance). We learned that we’re a much better World Race Team than we are a soccer team. We fell in love with a country I never imagined falling for.
A few days ago, our squad left Vietnam and traveled to Cambodia. This month, my team is what we call ATL (Ask the Lord). This means that this month we don’t have a ministry host. Instead, we get to ask the Lord where and how He wants us to serve within the country during our time here.
The Lord has made it so, so clear that Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh is the place for us this month.
We’ve been here for about three days and the Lord is already moving and shaking. Cambodia is spiritually heavy and the Lord has work to do here. I’m excited to see what He has instore for our team and for His people in Cambodia.
Stay tuned folks and catch us next time on X-Squad Goes to Southeast Asia.
