Our squad is on month three of the Race and it looks a lot different than our previous two.

This month, the men from our squad are spending the month doing ministry together.

That means that the nine girls from our squad that are usually on coed teams got to come together for a month of ministry with each other and another all girl team from our squad. For everyone keeping track in the audience, that is 17—yes, 17— ladies on one team.

Our “mega team” has enthusiastically taken on the team “Omega.” We love a good Bible pun around here.

Team Omega is spending the month in Livingstone, Zambia with a ministry called J-Zone. So far, our time here has been beautiful.

Since arriving in Zambia last week, we’ve had the chance to help with Bible Studies in a village outside of Livingstone. We’ve put together school assemblies, hosted a day camp for kids on business and identity, and spent time hanging out with kids at a local children’s home.

As we go into ministry every day, it continues to blow my mind how beautifully the Lord has put together this team of 17. Each woman on our team has specific and unique passions, gifts, and skills that the Lord knits together and uses for His glory and our good.

Need an administrator? Check.
Is there anyone to teach this lesson? Of course.
Someone who’s great with kids? You know it.
Can someone lead worship? She can.
Who can act out this skit? We’ve got the girl for the job.

When the Lord created each of these women, He knew exactly what the world needed. He gave every one of us a piece of His image that only we can carry; a part of His heart that we alone can share.

So far this month, the Lord has shown me just seamlessly the Body of Christ is meant to come together to do His work. We have one job here—to love and serve the people in front of us the same way Jesus would.

And honestly, half of the job is just showing up.

We show up by bringing our whole selves to the table. We freely and boldly walk as the women the Lord created us to be, because when we do, we give others permission to do the same. We fully embrace the passions, gifts, and skills He’s given us. After all, we know that each one was given to us on purpose, for a divine purpose.

Half of the job is showing up as we are, with what we’ve got, for the Lord’s glory and the good of the people around us.

The other half is just saying “yes.”

We say “yes” to using those passions, gifts, and skills in the old, familiar ways we’re used to. We say “yes” to using them in new, exciting, and sometimes even terrifying, ways. We say “yes” by doing the thing that feels hardest, when we know it’s the Lord’s best for us. We say “yes” to encouraging our sisters to do the same.

We’re just getting started with ministry here in Zambia. We don’t know exactly what each day will hold or what ministry has in store for us, but we’ll keep showing up and we’ll keep saying “yes.”
