Ever have those days, weeks, or even months where you are waiting for the next best thing. Always looking to see what is ahead and where the Lord is taking you. Not being happy with what is going on in that moment or even in that day.

This is something I have been thinking a lot about lately. In Matthew 6 the scripture tells us not to be anxious about tomorrow, and in Hebrews 13 the scripture tells us to be content with what we have.

If scripture is warning us about these thoughts, then the Lord must have known it was going to be a daily struggle for his children to stay present in the season He has them in. With springtime here everyone is excited and there is a refreshing that comes with it. The winter has passed and we are starting to see the fruit and love that the season holds.

But if you are in a season of winter where you feel like the Lord isn’t saying much, or you are not at a place of seeing the actual fruit of your labor, is that a time to look for the springtime and wait for it to show up?

I don’t believe it is. I believe there is something wonderful that happens in the winter season. There is a pureness to it that you don’t see in other seasons. Everything is bare, while on the outside it may look dead there is actually real growth taken place deep inside.

In the winter season there may be a lack of sunshine and a feeling of loneliness. That is when the Lord can work in you the most. It’s in that time when He has your full attention because you are searching. It’s during the winter season that He takes time to prune and strengthen you.

During the winter the roots of trees rest and are waiting. As soon as the soil reaches a warm enough temperature they start growing deeper and this process happens all winter long. There is a cycle of rest, waiting, and growth that is happening that no one can see.

Why would we not want to be focused in that season. Ready and waiting for the Lord to speak and to grow our roots down deep. you can’t enjoy the springtime if you don’t go through the winter season.

Then there is a change of season. There is something to be said for staying present in the season the Lord has you in. There is growth happening, there is life being produced as fruit. While It doesn’t look like springtime where the birds are chirping and the sun is shining, you can’t have the springtime without the winter first.

Enjoy the season you are in. Look at the day that has been given to you, and not the next 3 months. You don’t want to miss the treasure in this moment because your eyes are on the next big thing, the next move, or the next conversation.
