I am going to try and give you a small glimpse into what the last couple of weeks have looked like at training camp. The crazy things that I experienced, the things that I learned and the ways The Lord is stretching me personally.
What a day at training camp would typically look like. We would wake up around 6 in the morning and have exercise as a squad. They really emphasized how important it is to have a healthy spiritual walk, to be emotionally healthy, and physically healthy. We would then have a session or two in the morning, and another session or two in the afternoon. Each session was led by amazing leaders who are striving after The Lord and praying that over us as well. Each day our meals were based on a specific region around the world and their cultural practices to allow us to begin to see what it might look like overseas. I may or may not have eaten crickets, goat, and a few parts of chicken that I was pretty questionable about. Several days we also had field scenarios which were actual things that have happened on the field to previous teams. One night I learned what it looked like when your luggage doesn’t make it to your final destination and you have to find someone to share their pack with. One night I learned what it might look like to have a 12 hour layover in an airport. All scenarios which I wasn’t super excited about in the moment but very thankful for now so that I can better prepare myself for when I am on the field.
We were also stripped of ourselves and taken out of our comfort zone. We unplugged from our phones and social media the entire time. We took bucket showers which involved a 5 gallon bucket that you filled up at the spicket (with ice cold water) and then attempted to thoroughly wash your body with a measuring cup and pouring the water over yourself. I may or may not have only taken 2 bucket showers the entire time. We slept in tents and ENO hammocks each night, which made for some chilly nights sometimes.
These past few days The Lord has taught me so much through this experience and here are a few highlights. I learned about our worth and how God has specifically chosen us to be sons and daughters of the King from Colossians 3. I learned about shame and how that thrives in darkness and we should bring that to light. When lies that we aren’t good enough come up, we need to speak truth over ourselves and remember that we are accepted by The Lord first and that nothing else matters. I learned that our story matters no matter what we have been through and that The Lord will use that story if we allow Him. I learned that our words are powerful and that the power of life and death are in the tongue. This is just the beginning of what The Lord began to teach me and how He opened my eyes to see what He had for me.
This is just the start and I am already in love with what has happened. Please be praying over my squad that The Lord would be preparing our hearts for what is to come and that we would be ready to stand up and fight for those who feel like they don’t have a voice. Be praying that we would hear The Lord clearly and the voices of the world, the enemy and ourselves would fade away and that we would be in tune to The Father’s voice. I can’t wait to see what this next year will look like and what The Lord has in store!
