I handed her a bible. Happiness and gratitude overtook her entire body and she began to grin from ear to ear.

This is the story of Lena:

I walked into the Garfield School Supplies shop with no intentions but secretly just wanted to talk with Lena again. I wanted to continue to pour into the small relationship I had built with her with hopes of sharing the Gospel with her.

Life here looks different. People are closed off and not open to the idea of talking with you upon first meeting them. I have been going to this same shop for a week and a half now hoping that with time Lena would let me in.

We have made small talk, and she has started to open up. I thought today might be the day but wasn’t exactly sure.

I found some coloring pencils to use in my prayer journal and headed to the checkout.

Lena was sitting there with her head down. I asked her how she was and she said she was fine. I thought man she still isn’t going to let me in, and I will never get to talk with her.

Jordan came up behind me and checked out. I heard a still small voice say “Give her the Bible.” At first this caught me off guard and I thought no she won’t accept it. I heard the voice again say “Give her the Bible.”

I stepped out in faith and got the Bible out of my purse. I told Lena that I wanted to give her a gift and believed the Lord wanted her to have the Bible.

I handed her the bible. Happiness and gratitude overtook her entire body and she began to grin from ear to ear. She was overcome with joy and couldn’t believe that it was for her. I wrote her a short note on the inside and handed it back to her.

As we headed out, we saw her giddily head to the shop next to her with her new bible and show it to her friend that owned the shop. I am not sure what she believes or what will happen with Lena but I do know that a seed was planted today and that is enough for now.
