I have arrived in Colombia! It was quite the journey that included a 13 hour layover but we made it safely and are currently settling in to our ministry for the month in Bello. Here is a quick look at what life will look like this month.
Team: Hazaq
Our team name comes from Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Hazaq is Hebrew for be strong and courageous.
Ministry for the month: Sports Ministry at COSDECOL
We are partnering with soccer coaches here to help lead bible studies in the homes of their players and hang out with the kids. We are also helping with small projects around the facility where we are staying: weeding a walkway, clearing land for a parking lot/turnaround, planting grass, and clearing rooms for storage.
Living Condition: We are staying in dorms at a soccer facility. We have western toilets, showers, and actual beds. The Lord has truly blessed us this month with our ministry host and we are so grateful.
Food: Ruth is the cook here and is absolutely amazing. We have had chicken, potatoes, rice, plantains, soup, tortillas, and tons of homemade juice.
Local Language: Spanish
Currency: Pesos 1 U.S Dollar is equivalent to 3000 pesos
Climate: We are staying in an area that is called an eternal spring in the valley of the Andes Mountains.
Interesting Fact: Colombians are not a fan when people shut their car doors hard. They value what they do have and treat those items with respect. They also don’t throw things here unless it is a soccer ball.
I am super excited to see where The Lord will lead this month and all of the people that we will come in contact with!
