I got that feeling you get in the back of your throat when you are about to vomit. The nausea was there, the clammy hands, and the shortness of breath engulfed me. This wasn’t due to sickness though; it was due to the overwhelming amount of disgust that was happening all around me as I walked down the street.
-A man just bought a woman right in front of my own eyes and I couldn’t do anything about it.
-A girl just flashed a guy walking by with no hesitation.
-A lady is standing in the middle of the door frame holding a whip, waiting for the next person to walk in.
-Six women wearing matching outfits are sitting on stools outside the brothel waiting to be bought for the night.
-A business man is sitting on the stool talking with a woman and gets mad because he can’t buy her.
-Ladies are walking up and down the street in their underwear waiting for their next client.
-Women are lined up outside the bar while their pimp holds a sheet with their pictures on it for the next person to choose who they want to take home for the night.
-Women are dancing on poles inside the bar with little to no clothing on.
-A man just paid three hundred dollars for that woman.
-Woman after woman line the streets and are not phased by what is happening to them.
Human trafficking and prostitution is real and it is happening everywhere.
In Thailand, it’s embraced and accepted. It is completely normal and a daily part of life here.
In America, where it is happening in our own backyard, it is something that people completely ignore.
Women all over the world have lost their worth and value and don’t even know it.
Regardless of where you are, it’s a growing problem. Instead of ignoring the problem, we need to tackle it head on and advocate for those that can’t.
There are approximately 20 to 30 million slaves in the world today.
Will you be someone who raises awareness and advocates or will you be someone who sits back and watches it happen right before your own eyes?
