I don’t think I knew exactly what was in store for me this morning. Our schedule said “outreach” which could consist of house visits or going to see the gramouns to almost anything. We hiked more than 5 miles up a very big mountain, bibles in hand,  everyone ready to spread the Lord’s love. We didn’t end up doing house visits after our 2 hour hike up the mountain so I was a little confused. When we got to the top of the mountain we arrived at a beautiful spring. We all jumped in clothes and all and kids would stand at the edge watching us. We tried calling some in saying, “bouile” (jump in creole). Some kids definitely did jump in and played with us! I noticed a girl who was around 13 to the side of the spring and swam over there. She didn’t know any English but she knew hand games like “double double this this”. So, we sat there and played some games. Then we picked up rocks and counted them in English and Creole. We sat trying to have a conversation as I spoke as much creole as I could remember (which isn’t a lot) to her, and she’d reply with long sentences in Creole. I tried asking her how old she was and what’s up and other simple phases which all worked!! We talked for a little bit then went back to playing hand games. As the time came to leave, she followed us down the mountain a little and just walked with us. This day had little communication involved, but I got to love on this girl. Loving these kids of Haiti has been one of the best things. Holding their hands, playing tag, letting girls do my hair or just sitting and letting them talk on and on. Outreach this day was one of my favorites – being able to hike up a huge mountain to love on a kiddo!! I am truly blessed here in Haiti!
