On days I don’t babysit I always find myself around women. In the past three days I have noticed I tend to want to go to the pregnancy clinic or help in the kitchen at our ministry site. Both of these places are run successfully by women. So, here I am going to talka little about these two places and how I’ve been inspired there and just brag on some of the new women I’ve met. The pregnancy clinic is free for women in the community. They can come get checkups, get birth control and have their baby there. Its an amazing place. The women at this clinic that come in each day are strong. I’m being serious; they walk to the. Link. in the blazing heat with other children in hand sometimes. Mel is a lady that works at the clinic. Most days she’s never stopping before we get there. She’s always running around preparing and once we get there and start checking people in she’s taking women back from 9-11:45 non-stop.
The women in the kitchen make all our meals, clean and do other household work. In the afternoons I`ve started to help them cook dinner and clean up from lunch. I really enjoy the time I have spent with them. They have taught me some new cooking skills and we’ve just gotten time to laugh and hang out. The women normally work until 7pm with 2 only breaks in between that.
One final person I’m going to talk about is named Rhona. Rhona is a women that works for the ministry. She’s mainly in charge of the medical side of feedings and helping people who need it. She also is the president of the community. She is one of the hardest working people I know. Rhona is constantly giving back to others in so many ways. Whether its taking in kids that need to be watched, or taking people to hospitals, or birthing a baby. Yes, she’s also a midwife. She literally does it all. Props to her honestly.
Those were only a few of the women I’ve met and have recently become friends with and have been inspired by. This community is full of women just like the one shot I have written about. I was reading an article the other day and came across a quote by Meryl Streep that says “I think the best role models for women are people who are fruitfully confident in themselves, who bring light into the world.” I just want to thank the women here that have been, and still are being, such amazing role models in so many ways to the kids and this community, and to me. I ask that you pray for these women that they are constantly filled with strength and patience.
With love
