Last night we wrapped up our ministry in Jinotepe with Pastor Cairo at his Baptist Church. The eight of us had a great time working with the Pastor the last two weeks, and getting to know him and his family.

This past week, the Pastor took us to visit a church in Tipitapa in which he grew up. After a little rest, we went out in the town with some women from the church to evangelize. Katie and I were on a team and we visited a few members of the church to pray with them, a few people from town who haven’t been to church lately to make sure they are well, and to encourage others to come to church. After inviting people to the service, Katie gave the message. My favorite part of the day was while Katie and our team were visiting members of the church, Brie, Karen and Lesa’s team showed up at our house! We each were given a glass of Pepsi and had a bunch of laughs with the women of Tipitapa.

The next morning, we woke up at 4:20 the next morning for a 5:00 prayer service. So, just a short 40 minutes after our bodies were laying in the pews, our heads were back on them for prayer. After breakfast, we took a bus to Managua to visit another church. Once we reached the church, we found out we were to lead an impromptu kid’s event — don’t worry, that’s pretty normal out here! More evangelizing, an evening service at the church, and then a planned kid’s event with a new set of kids the next morning. That afternoon, the Pastor took us on a tour of Managua before we headed back home to Jinotepe.

Yesterday, our Pastor arranged a 5 AM service for his church — we skipped the 10:30 service. That evening we had a special service where Karen spoke to the women of the church. At the end of the service, the church prayed a special blessing over all of us (even though three of my teammates are staying at our ministry site) and gave us each recuerdos (souvenirs to remember them by).

This morning, three of my teammates, our squad leader and I headed into Managua to meet our parents for the Parent Vision Trip! This next week our parents will be on a one-week mission trip with us. It’s their chance to see a little bit of what it means to be a missionary, and what it means to be a racer. Check back in next week to hear how it goes!
