We made it to Ukraine for our first month on the World Race and we have officially started ministry! We made our way to the city of Ternopil, where we will be spending our month. This month we are partnering with a local church, which has been very hospitable. Our first ministry has been to teach English at a local school to middle school students. In my next blog will share a little more about ministry and what that has been like for our team.
After being in Ternopil for about a week, I’d like to share a few fun facts with you all:
- Obey all cross walks (it really is illegal to jaywalk here)
- Most people do not say hello on the streets (although our goal is to start a trend here in Ukraine)
- Milkshakes are not actually milkshakes
- Ice cream comes in tubes (like sausage) and in bags
- Uzvar (a traditional beverage) smells like a bonfire and has a smoky flavor
- The city of Lviv is the coffee capital of Europe and coffee is cheap – move aside Starbucks!
- A single restaurant that markets that they serve pizza, sushi, pancakes AND burgers can actually be DELICIOUS!
- Pancakes are not actually pancakes
- Light switches are typically on the outside of the rooms
- Ukrainians are typically quiet…we are not!
- Schools do not have names but are given numbers (for example school 24)
If you would like to join us in prayer, here are a few things you can be praying about:
– Please pray that God would reach the hearts of the Ukrainians here. Many people view faith as tradition and a set of rules to follow, rather than a true relationship with Jesus.
– Please pray that God would shine His light through us, as well as the church we are working with
– Please pray for us as we prepare to lead a VBS at the local church next week.
As always, thank you for your love and support! If you have any questions feel free to ask! Pictures to come soon in my next blog!
