“I am ugly.” These once were the words that left my lips daily as I quickly glanced in the mirror and turned away in disgust. I hated everything about myself. I didn’t know who I was, or who I was to become. I let this word become my identity. You see, words have power. It’s a matter of life or death. God’s word says, “The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” Proverbs 18:21 NLT. How very true this is. I was literally dying a slow and painful death. I was hopeless, broken, and just miserable with life. I honestly didn’t feel like I had a reason to live anymore. I was ready to throw in the towel, but deep down I really wanted someone to rescue me before it was too late, and someone did! God did. He reached out His hand and said, “Kayla, I have a mighty plan for your life, will you grab ahold of me and never let go, so I can show you?” I had two choices. I could either continue down the path of death, or I could grab on to the giver of life? I had no clue what God was going to do, but I did know anything was better than the life that I was living, I said, “Yes.” That simple three letter word has changed my life forever.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
I grabbed hold of this promise and haven’t let go. God has taken me on a journey. A journey of identity. He has taken me into the depths of His heart and has shown me what a good father He is. I truly believe in order to know who you are in Christ, you have to first know who Christ is. You have to know His character. God sent His only son for us! He loves us that much. Think about it. He sacrificed His son, so that we could have eternal life with Him. He sent Jesus to take sin, sickness, depression, poor self esteem, addictions, pride, anything you can think of to the cross with Him. It was all for us. God is truly concerned about the things in our lives. When I truly knew who my father was I could then walk in my true identity.
I am a child of God, chosen, the light of this world, freed from things, accepted, blessed, His, delivered, forgiven, bought with a price, BEAUTIFUL, enriched in every way, and most importantly LOVED.
We are all of these things and so much more. These are not my words, but His words. We are created in His image. “So God created mankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 NIV. Y’all God doesn’t make ugly things. It’s literally not possible. He makes NO mistakes. If you are telling yourself you are ugly, not enough, or whatever lie you are speaking over yourself, you are literally judging the very work of your father. It’s a LIE. A lie right from the mouth of the enemy, and we cast it back to down to the pits of hell where it belongs. You’re a BEAUTIFUL and MORE THAN ENOUGH!
Be encouraged. God loves YOU so much. You’re His, He hates to see His children hurting. If God is holding out His hand to you, grab hold of it and never let go. He’s got a mighty plan for your life and He wants to show you. Walk in your identity TODAY.
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14
Written with love,
Kayla
