This came flowing from my devotions this morning and is something that I have dealt with in the past few months. Read on.

Luke 9:57-62

57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”

58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

59 He said to another man, “Follow me.”

But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”

62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

When I tell people what God is doing with my life for the next year, I mostly get excited responses and whole-hearted encouragement. It’s inspiring to have such a support group! Y’all are awesome! However, there are times when I receive a less than thrilled response and have this journey God is sending me on questioned. I am asked things like, “Why don’t you wait until you’re more financially stable?” or “Why don’t you finish graduate school first?” or one of my personal favorites, “What about finding yourself a husband and kids? You don’t have forever you know.”

Now these thoughts are NOT bad. They are good things to be thinking about and things I would definitely be thinking more about if I was trusting in my own common sense. Instead I have faith in God and I trust what He has for me. I don’t want to be that Christ follower who says, “Yes, I will obey God if He will let me use my common sense, but don’t ask me to take a step in the dark.”(Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest).

Yes, the world and good planning tell me going on the World Race isn’t the best plan for a “successful” life. Well, guess what?

I DON’T WANT A “SUCCESSFUL” LIFE IN THE WORLD’S EYES…

OR EVEN YOUR EYES.

I WANT AN OBEDIENT LIFE IN GOD’S EYES!

As my 3rd grade teacher would tell us constantly, “Obedience is doing WHAT you’re told, WHEN you’re told, and with the right ATTITUDE!” I believe this is what God has called me to do. I am choosing to obey immediately and with a joyful and surrendered spirit.

Love.
