Our last days in Haiti were so bitter sweet! We were so blessed in our location wi
th so much. We had time to bond as a team and to just grow in respect and love for one another. We discovered the ornery side of each other which has really formed a bond between us that has made us feel like a family. We were blessed to be by the beach and have amazing food prepared by Carol and Mary Eve. We were blessed by the opportunity to be a part of a ministry that is doing great work in their community. We were blessed by the opportunity to love on, and be loved on by the beautiful children in Grand Goave.
On the last day we had with the kids at Mission of Hope I was blessed by one beautiful little girl named FaFa. We all bonded with specific children, but this particular girl was a favorite of all of us and even the other kids. From our understanding she is a daughter of one of the women who works at the orphanage, but this little girl just has a spirit of joy that is contagious! She is just this chubby 3 year old with a permanent smile that melts your heart, and a laugh that you can’t help but smi
le every time you hear it! Fafa and I particularly bonded over me holding her upside down, a game I love because it reminds me of my nephew Dominic, and I she laughed every time making it even better! As the game wore us both out, Fafa fell asleep in my arms. Amazing how something so insignificant can be such a blessing. We napped together in the middle of the chaos of all the children running around us, and it felt like the perfect end to the my last day with them.
But we were also so excited for a lot of things too. First we were excited to see other members of our squad! We were excited to be able to upload pictures…yay pictures… and videos to our blogs! We were excited to have different opportunities to have access to some more familiar things like… buildings, banks, stores. refrigerators, and electricity that doesn’t come from a generator that drowns out any and all conversations. We are enjoying all these things in San Juan, Dominican Republic now, but I know that we will often think fondly of the nights under the stars listening to the waves crash and how our time was blessed in Haiti.
