Life Unlimited is a children’s home for 32 children here in Guatemala.  This is the ministry my team is working with for our first month.  We are doing a variety of things here.  Our first couple of days were spent in the bean fields.  We have been picking the beans by hand in the rain. I have seen so many beans that I am sure I will be dreaming about them soon.

Because there have been some hurricanes around here, we have been having continuous rain most days.  In fact, the laundry we hung on the balcony to dry about 3 days ago is still soaked and not smelling to pretty right now.

We have also:

Shelled beans to get them ready to eat… a long process.

Cut grass using a machete!

Created a pathway for walking with left over concrete pieces and gravel.

Organized some sheds and storage rooms for them.

And Wade helped them put in a door for their kitchen.

We have also starting spending time with the kids a lot.  We are all going to be filling in as house parents for the next few weeks as some of the house parents are taking vacations.  Wade and Jake will be working in the house with the older boys.  Liz and Jaime will be working with the girls.  And, Courtney and I will be with the little ones.

Things have been going so well.  The place we are staying is super nice.

We get hot showers a couple times a week!

The road to get to this home is all dirt and covered with pot holes… talk about being car sick.

You cant flush toilet paper.

We have beans and rice every night for dinner… But, we are getting a variety of food for lunch!

We have mastered the act of eating while having tons of children on your lap trying to play with the light on your watch.

We are all out of clean clothes… have been for a while… and probably will continue to be because of this rain.

Traffic is crazy here.

Church was completely in Spanish… only caught a few words the whole service.

But, we are working on learning Spanish.

I love it here!  We are having a lot of fun and really starting to bond with some of the people and kids!  We are blessed to serve them anyway we can… even if its picking beans in the rain 🙂  We still have fun doing it!
