The World Race sends hundreds of younger (age 21-35) individuals out into the world with a tent and a backpack. They travel from country to country to do mission work and see what God is doing in the world. Many of us feel called to missions, and this is just the first step in figuring out God’s plan for us.

What are the reasons for going on this trip?

To serve. When we are overseas we will be serving. We will have the opportunity to reach out to hurting people, and to share the absolute, incredible, healing joy of God’s love. We will work. The World Race has hooked up with ministries working in countries all over the world, and the teams that they send go directly to these missions to work with them and help further their ministry. I have talked to so many individuals who realized that they could never sit and stop serving after they got to know abused children hanging around the missions, worked with victims trapped in the sex-trade, or ministered to sick and forgotten people.

Those are the things I can expect to be a part of.

To grow. I will be taken out of my comfort zone. I will be challenged in ways that I cannot even begin to imagine. We will learn complete reliance on God, we will grow closer to God, we will see God’s work and presence in all of the world. I want to be shaken. God is frightful and AWESOME and I want to experience Him in ways that I never have before. I want to have the barriers thrust down and stop serving a distant God, but begin interacting with a powerful, intimate God.

When I go on this mission trip I will be away from home for almost a year without seeing friends or family. I can expect to have days where I really miss home. I will spend the year with the same small group of Racers. I expect that they will become like a family. I will go to places I never imagined going, doing work I never imagined doing. I think I might have days where I wish I hadn’t come at all. Am I scared? Absolutely!

But I’m SO excited!!
