We turned to walk up a dirt road towards the main square of the hill tribe village. Most of the houses were made out of bamboo or wood, put together the best that they could. You could see the wear and tear on most of the houses we walked past.

Until one.

Looking to our left, there was a beautiful wooden house. The detailing on all of the window frames and paneling was unmatched by any other in the village.

As we continued walking, our host started explaining to us the story of the house:

In the house used to live a young girl. To provide for her family, like many others in Thailand, she went into the city to get work. She started working in a brothel, sending money home to her family to help provide for them.

As people saw how well her family was taken care of, they wanted their families to be provided for too. The woman of that house offered to find their children jobs in brothels. Young girls from the village began to be sold by their families into the sex industry..

However, one of the girls from this village has a different story. For safety’s sake, we will call her Ray. When our ministry in Thailand heard that Ray was at high risk for being sold, they took her into their children’s home.

At all of Remember Nhu’s childrens homes, the children that our there get food, shelter, and a Christian education. No longer are they at risk for being sold, but are bought with the blood of Jesus.

The village started to see that as Ray grew up, she was different. She was educated, smart, driven, and confident. She had a chance for a real future.

And because of Ray, because of the difference Remember Nhu made on her life, the chief of the village took notice. He made an order that here on out, none of the children in the village were allowed to be sold by the woman in the nice house.

There is hope.

Things are changing.

I cannot imagine being in a place where you feel so desperate that you feel the need to sell your own child. But that is a far too common reality here in Thailand. And it’s heart breaking.

And that is the organization we get to work along side this month. An organization that prevents children from ever being sold into trafficking. Changing their outcome before it even has a chance to start.

Just as Remember Nhu is doing something to change the reality here in Thailand, you can do something too.

Don’t know where to start? Here are a few ideas.

1. PRAY. Pray for the children here, that they would see their true worth and love from the Father. Pray that trafficking in Thailand is completely eliminated, along with poverty. Pray for the staff here, they they would continue to do the Kingdom work that has been started.

2. BECOME FAMILY. Remember Nhu has a sponsorship program. Each child has a “grandparent” that provides $60/month, a “grandparent” that provides $40/month, and a “sibling” that provides $20/month. If you want to help keep these kids out of their dangerous situations, consider sponsorship and visit https://remembernhu.org/sponsorship/

3. LISTEN. Is the Lord calling you to action? Is He calling you to more? Stirring something inside of you that you can’t deny? Ask him what He wants from you, and make sure to listen to what He has to say.
